The U.S. (as well as much of the rest of the world) celebrated Greece last week in a big way. From the Empire State Building to Google to Harvard to Niagra Falls, the bicentennial of Greek independence was honored. AHEPA even reenacted the 1827 Greek Ball of New York as a way of commemorating this incredible event. And we started our day on a call with Rep. Maloney (NY) and Rep. Bilarakis (FL) discussing H.Res.254, a resolution they introduced into the House of Representatives urging the U.K. to return the Parthenon Marbles to Greece. If interested, urge your representative to co-sponsor the resolution.
The Greeks of Detroit should make their own version of Eminem’s hit film 8 Mile, given what they’ve contributed to that city’s rich history. Against long odds, they too, stepped to the metaphoric mic and put a dent in that part of the universe.
Well, actually, yes, a 2,500-year old bronze bull figurine was found in Olympia. So we are staying bullish on archaeologists continuing to find more old Greek things. Opa!
